The ADM Survey
First of all thank you for using AnyDecentMusic, whether you have
discovered us recently or been visiting the site since we started
the service in 2009.
We've reached the point, like many free music sites, where we need
to consider how we can continue to provide this service.
To explain why, it might help if we gave you a little ADM
background.
We started the site about five years ago mainly because we wanted
such a site for ourselves. Metacritic was doing something similar,
but we felt we could offer something different.
When I say 'we' I mean myself and Terry, my co-founder; there are
two of us working on ADM day-to-day, with day jobs that
help finance the site and the Spotify app.
When you launch a site like ADM, you've no idea if it will ever
pay for itself. You see a value for visitors. We still do.
But financing it is difficult. We don't make money from ADM (apart
from miniscule amounts from Amazon & iTunes); at the same time
we pay for hosting, data upkeep and developments.
So where do we go from here?
Our own business can no longer afford to support ADM. We persevere
in the meantime because we enjoy it - like our regular users we
love discovering great new music.
So we are reaching out to you for your thoughts and
advice. If you have the time we would be grateful for your
